The Alliance of Genocide Victim Communities (AGVC) is proud to announce the formal inclusion of the Rohingya community into its coalition of survivor-led groups advocating for justice, remembrance, and the prevention of genocide. This new chapter is launched in partnership with the Rohingya Centre of Canada and community leader John Jonaid, who have worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the atrocities committed against the Rohingya people.
The Rohingya have endured decades of systematic persecution in Myanmar, culminating in mass atrocities, displacement, and statelessness. Their lived experience and ongoing struggle for recognition and accountability are central to the mission of the AGVC.
“We are deeply honoured to stand with the Rohingya community,” said Joanne Hodges, Facilitator of AGVC. “Their courage and commitment to justice inspire us all. In joining our alliance, they bring a vital voice and vision to our collective efforts to end genocide and uphold human dignity.”
AGVC is committed to amplifying Rohingya voices and ensuring that community perspectives help shape policy, public awareness, and survivor solidarity across Canada and beyond.
This partnership strengthens the Alliance’s shared mission: to remember the past, confront ongoing atrocities, and build a future where no community suffers in silence.
