Hazara Community Celebrates Historic First-Ever Cultural Festival in Canada

On May 31, 2026, members of Canada's Hazara community gathered in Toronto for what organizers described as the first-ever Hazara Cultural Festival held in Canada. The event brought together community members, artists, youth, families, and supporters to celebrate Hazara heritage, culture, music, art, and community identity.

The festival marked an important milestone for a community that has faced decades of discrimination, persecution, and displacement, while continuing to preserve and share its rich cultural traditions. Throughout the evening, attendees enjoyed cultural performances, traditional music, community exhibits, and opportunities to learn more about Hazara history and heritage.

Representatives of the Alliance of Genocide Victim Communities (AGVC) were honoured to attend the celebration and stand in solidarity with the Hazara community. During the event, AGVC received a Certificate of Appreciation recognizing its ongoing advocacy, partnership, and support for the rights, dignity, and well-being of Hazara communities in Canada and abroad.

The recognition reflects years of collaboration between AGVC and Hazara community leaders on issues including genocide awareness, human rights advocacy, refugee protection, community education, and solidarity initiatives.

AGVC extends its sincere congratulations to the organizers, volunteers, performers, and community leaders who made this historic event possible. Cultural celebrations such as these play a vital role in preserving community memory, strengthening identity, and building greater understanding across Canada's diverse communities.

We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Hazara community and supporting future initiatives that promote cultural heritage, human rights, and genocide prevention.
